Campus Watch 09:33 Jan 18, 2013 · News · By Mitchell Tierney

The effects of an increasing budget deficit are being felt by University of Saskatchewan staff as 40 layoffs will be made campus-wide in the next three weeks.  The layoffs are being made as part of the university’s strategy to combat increasing deficit, having projections that show it could inflate to $44.5 million  in three years time.

The cuts will be made to administrative and support positions, with further layoffs anticipated in the coming months. Reportedly, the university will save $2.3 million annually due to the release of these 40 employees.  Around 7,500 workers are currently employed by the University of Saskatchewan.
